Bryan Stacks
Head Shadow and Hold Me Hostage
Bryan Stacks is a working musician with twenty-plus years experience as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist for a variety of different bands and projects. Some highlights over the years include working in bands such as Shaded Red and Hold Me Hostage. Stacks has songwriting credits ranging from major releases (Shaded Red/Warner Alliance), independent releases (Echoes in Reverie, Hold Me Hostage) to an independent film soundtrack (What’s the Use/Blue Paper Film Works). On reflecting on his time spent writing and playing: “Through the many ups and downs of working in music, it’s never about racing towards some finish line or some kind of ultimate goal. For me, it’s about enjoying the process, absorbing as much inspiration that I can and then hopefully paying that forward to others”. These days Bryan remains very active in the Colorado live music scene playing a variety of shows ranging from tribute bands (The PettyNicks Experience, My Own Summer), original bands (Hold Me Hostage) and backing student showcases (Performance High). In playing guitar or bass in most of these situations, Stacks is sure to have a Hippie Pick in hand. On Hippie Picks: “Between the unique designs of the picks and the fact that they are hand made, I am 100% sold on Hippie Picks. They feel and play amazing and in a world of mass production and big box stores, I think it feels good to choose the ma and pa shop. Bigger is not always better. Mark and I connected a little while back and as I got to know him it’s plain to see that this dude is living an inspired life. That’s so contagious and I love that about him and his picks.”
“Head Shadow” is Bryan’s most recent original music project featuring Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star, R.E.M.) Christopher Thomas (Hold Me Hostage), Adrienne Osborn (AO, Performance High) and Arehlai (Echoes in Reverie) on vocals. On Head Shadow’s debut release “The Future is Fiction”, Stacks handles all other instruments except for drums, played by Rory Reagan and Ryan Elwood. "Hippie Picks: the grip is a trip and the aim is true. Hippie Picks are the only pick for me and you".
