Hi, I’m Mark Christopher, creator of The World's One & Only Arrowhead Shaped Guitar Pick.
I bet you’re wondering how I became a professional maker, and created the world's coolest looking guitar pick? Well, let me tell you about that.
Years ago, while making all wooden Christmas gifts at my father-in-law’s woodworking shop, I noticed I had a spare guitar pick in my pocket. That's when I had the idea to make a guitar pick for my buddy Chance Carrig, and I did. I must admit it wasn’t the best guitar pick in the world, but it was really special to get to make a guitar pick for not only a fellow guitarist, but my best friend and bandmate. After Christmas i hadn’t thought much of making any more picks. In fact a full year went by without making another pick. Spending time with my father-in-law, I really got into woodworking, and in my spare time that’s what I enjoyed doing.
One day while working in his shop, I asked if I could have some scrap pieces of wood to try and make another guitar pick or two. Or well, 10 total. After making some wooden picks I shared them online through social media pages to see what people thought about my art. To my surprise people started asking if they could buy them, so I started selling them. I still wasn’t the best guitar pick maker out there, but I was learning my craft and slowly becoming better at making the world's coolest looking guitar picks.
Most of my summer that year was spent sitting outside looking over the beautiful 300 acres in my backyard all while making wooden guitar picks from the back porch. One day while cutting the wood into the right shapes, I made a mistake, I cut one side too deep. Thinking I could fix this with careful cutting from here forward, I accidentally cut a little too deep on the other side as well. I was flustered so I through the pick on the ground, thinking it couldn’t be redeemed into a guitar pick. As I moved onto the next guitar pick to make, I kept looking down on the ground at this odd shaped mistake of a guitar pick. That's when I noticed something. It kind of looked like an arrowhead. After finishing the pick I had been working on I then decided to attempt to make an actual arrowhead shaped guitar pick. It came out ok enough, but could it be duplicated? After making 3 in a row, I thought to myself, surely I can’t seriously be the first person to come up with the arrowhead shaped guitar pick, could I? I am serious but don’t call me Shirley. After two hours of Googling , I realized that I in fact am The World's First Arrowhead Guitar Pick Maker. I quickly called my patient lawyer and moved into securing the rights on The World's One & Only Arrowhead Shaped Guitar Pick.
Who would have thought, that this would come from a mistake I made? One I almost missed, I almost threw the guitar pick away thinking it couldn’t be redeemed. But isn’t that the way. Like Bob Ross would say on his TV shows, there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents. It’s what we learn from those happy accidents, it’s what we do with those happy accidents that transforms us into something truly unique and special, just like Hippie Picks.
